International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) is an international non-profit research-for-development (R4D) organization created in 1967, governed by a Board of Trustees, and supported primarily by the Consultative Group of international Agricultural Research (CGIAR). Our R4D is anchored on the development needs of sub-Saharan Africa. We develop agricultural solutions with our partners to tackle hunger and poverty by reducing producer and consumer risks, enhancing crop quality and productivity, and generating wealth from agriculture. We have more than 100 internationally recruited scientists from about 35 countries and 900 nationally recruited staff based in various stations across Africa.

The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture seeks suitable Nigerian Nationals to fill the positions below at the Institute’s Headquarters, Ibadan.



1.)  Scientific / Electronics Superintendent

2-year renewable contract

Duties
Successful candidate will among other things:
  • Assist the Scientific and Electronic Services Officer in the repairs, installation and maintenance of scientific and electronic equipment such as autoclaves, spectrophotometers, Water purification system, PH meters, Heating systems and UPS etc.
  • Supervise periodic maintenance, repairs, calibration and all back-up of security systems such as CCTV, Intruder Alarm System etc.
  • Keep all records for WOR, equipment movement, new installation and all maintenance logbooks.
  • Ensure safe-keep all the workshop tools and supervise Technicians in the workshop.
  • Carry out any other work that be assigned by the Scientific and Electronic Services Officer.
Qualifications and Experience
  • BSc/HND Electrical/ Electronics Engineering plus at least 5 years relevant working experience in a large scientific/electronics workshop.
  • Candidate must have sound analytical mind with good interpersonal skills; he/she must be trustworthy, hardworking and be able to coordinate/lead a team.  He/she should be ready to work at odd hours when necessary.

2.)  Mechanic I (Fabrications)

(2-year renewable Contract)

Duties:
Successful candidate will:
  • Perform preventive services maintenance on Heavy Equipment when due;
  • Carry out repairs and periodic maintenance on models such as Grader, D6, Liftrucks and Caterpillar
  • Work and operate other agricultural machinery
  • Keep daily records, house-keeping exercise and
  • Perform any other related assigned duties
Qualification and Experience:
  • Minimum of (ND) Mechanical / Agricultural Engineering, WASC/Trade Test II plus at least 2 years working experience in a large heavy equipment workshop.
  • Candidate must be honest, physically fit and be ready to work under pressure and at odd hours when necessary.

3.)  Grounds-Keeper I

(2-year renewable Contract)

Duties:
Candidate will:
  • Ensure maintenance of lawns and oversee a work plan for general estate cleaning
  • Work and operate Lawn Mowers and other machinery in use for quality job
  • Keep daily records, house-keeping exercise and Perform any other duties assigned by the Supervisor.
Qualification and Experience:
  • Minimum of WASC / relevant Trade Test Certificate plus at least 2 years relevant working experience in an international /multi-national organization or a reputable organization.
  • Candidate must be honest physically fit and ready to work under pressure and at odd hours when necessary.
